STEEPED IN A RICH TRADITION dating back to 1815, yet seeking to be relevant to our time and place, Bridge Street is a living downtown church with a mission to glorify God, to strengthen our commitment to Jesus Christ, and to proclaim a faith which can both guide and strengthen us in the midst of our human journey.
As part of the United Church of Canada, our church embodies the traditions of the Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregationalist and Evangelical United Brethren Churches. With more than one thousand members and adherents coming from every quarter in the city and beyond we remain committed to our motto of being 'a Church with a Heart in the Heart of the Village'. We offer a traditional worship service, fine music, a fully staffed and equipped nursery, and a vibrant Children's Centre.
We invite you to come to this dynamic growing community to worship with us, and share in our mission to affirm and live the Christian ministry throughout our community, across our nation, and around the world.
When & Where?
Our services take place at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the main Sanctuary, and at 10:00 a.m. from from Victoria Day Weekend (May 20, 2007) through to Labour Day Weekend. On some Communion Sundays (Lent, Palm Sunday, Worldwide Communion and Advent) there is an additional Communion Service at 9:00 a.m. in the Davis Chapel. We also conduct special evening services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and two services on Christmas Eve (one family-oriented and a Communion & Carols by Candlelight), along with a service of Lessons and Drama on Good Friday.
Children
The children (grades K-8) are in the Sanctuary for the first part of the service. Dr. Smith has a special Children's Time with them, after which they retire to the Sunday Program in the Children's Centre. Children stay for the whole service on Palm Sunday Communion, Easter, Christian Family Sunday, Christmas Sunday and on other special occasions as they arise.
For babies and children younger than three we also have an equipped nursery staffed on both Sunday and Tuesday mornings.
Easier to See, Hear, and Reach
We have an FM hearing system with both T switch and ear-plug portable receivers. For each service we print a number of large print service orders, and we have a supply of large print hymn books. We also provide wheelchair access via a ramp to both the Sanctuary and the lower level of the building, and have a wheelchair available on both levels. Several days following the service we post on this site illustrated sermon texts in PDF form.
If you need transport to get to church, call Central Taxi [613 962 5353] to be picked up, (and to book a ride home). Tell the dispatcher that the trips are to be charged to us.
Dress
Please come as you wish. Our congregation wears everything from suit and tie to casual. If it's a hundred degrees and you've walked in from a boat, that's going to mean shorts and T-shirt. However you come, you are welcome, and you will feel welcome.
